How to measure a client's AI visibility

"The client wants GEO and I don't know how to measure where they stand or prove it improved." If that sounds familiar, here is a repeatable, honest way to do it, without selling positions that do not exist.

1. Define buyer questions, without the brand

8 to 12 questions someone who does not know the client yet would ask: "which … do you recommend in …?", "what is the best … for …?". Include their city or country if the business is local, and use their customers' language.

2. Fix them and do not change them

The same questions in every measurement. If you change them, any improvement may come from the questions and not from your work.

3. Repeat each question several times

Assistant answers vary a lot between runs. Ask each question at least two or three times and report the frequency: "named in 4 of 20 answers", not "ranks #3".

4. Use web search and the client's location

That is how assistants answer a buying question today: by searching. A buyer in Madrid and one in Mexico City do not see the same thing.

5. Record who appears in their place

The brands it names and how often. It is what the client cares about most and what gives you arguments: "these three beat you on these questions".

6. Record which sources each recommendation comes from

The cited pages are your work plan: directories, lists, reviews and comparisons where the client needs to be, or where data needs fixing.

7. Ask what the AI says about the client

A direct question about the business reveals false or outdated claims worth fixing too, and it is usually what lands hardest in the first meeting.

8. Present the before and after, dated

Same questions, same method, a later date. Show how the frequency moved and which sources they now appear on, and make clear it is the assistant's answer at that moment, not a guarantee.

Try the method for free with a client: see who the AI recommends in their place today and which sources it draws on. If you work with several clients, the agency plan does it for you every month, with your brand.

FAQ

How many questions do I need?

With 8 to 12 well-chosen questions repeated two or three times you get a measurement stable enough to compare month to month. More questions give more detail but cost more time or money.

Can I promise the client they will show up?

Not honestly. You can promise a method, a plan based on the sources the AI uses, and a repeatable measurement of the result.

Which assistants should I measure?

The ones your client's customers use. ChatGPT accounts for most assistant traffic, but Gemini grew a lot during 2026; if you can, measure more than one.

What do agencies charge for this?

In Spain, GEO audits sell for €500–1,500 and monthly services for €1,000–3,000 (citado.co, July 2026). In Mexico, one agency lists MX$9,900 per audit (agenciageo.mx).
